Introduction

There are a number of issues somewhat unique to our chosen mode of employment. The health insurance offered by agencies varies in cost and quality. Coverage start times can sometimes lag by an entire assignment, promised “first-day” coverage does not always work out in practice. Some agencies will not cover family members or only at unaffordable rates. There is often a lapse of apparent coverage between assignments, especially if switching agencies. The purpose of this article is to summarize common issues and solutions.
